Follow Cost Warns About Compulsive Twitter Posters

Follow Cost - Appscout

Choosing to follow your friends Twitter posts isn't a bad thing, but it can be annoying when they tweet so much that you can't keep up--or don't even bother. If you're worried that someone you are thinking of following is a compulsive Twitterer and will flood your feed with dull updates about what they're eating or how they're feeling, Follow Cost can tell you what you're in for before you click that Follow button.

Just type in the name of a Twitter user, and Follow Cost looks at their post history and posts for the past 100 days and tallies the average post per day for you. The site displays both the average updates and the average for the last hundred posts side by side.

Follow Cost uses the Twitter and Twitter Search APIs to collect information about Twitter users and their posts. You don't have to sign up to use the service; all you need is the name of the Twitter user you'd like to learn about. The service offers a bookmarklet to add to your toolbar that you can use to check someone's post frequency as you browse their Twitter posts.

Follow Cost - Milliscoble

In addition to displaying the number of posts per day, the service shows you the average number of posts in terms of "milliscobles": fractions of how frequently Robert Scoble posts to Twitter. (That coinage alone makes us love Follow Cost.) For example, AppScout has posted about 10 times each day since we started posting to Twitter, which is the equivalent ...

Dash cuts 50 employees, drastically changing trade model

It’s tough to say whether Amazon’s recent fire sale of the Dash Express was an indicator of all that, but sprint is making some serious changes, regardless. Reportedly, the outfit has slashed 50 employees — or around two-thirds of its workforce — which will leave 30 workers who wi…

Motorola to prevent secondhand AURA sales on eBay?

We’ll be totally straight-up with you: we don’t believe that for a moment. Okay, perhaps for a nanosecond, but not a full-on moment. An unnamed source shut to Motorola has reportedly informed Register Hardware that in order to preserve the AURA’s appearance of exclusivity, bu…

Reunion.com and Wink to Merge into Single Brand

The world can use a lot of things right now--honestly, a new social network isn't really high on its list. So, how about two small social networks merging into one slightly larger social network? That's the game plan over at Reunion.com and Wink.

The social networking sites announced today that they will merge into a single new brand which is set to launch early next year. As is the trend these days, the site will also pull in people search results from other sites as well, according to PaidContent.org.

Reunion.com, as its name implies, was launched as an alumni search. Wink was initially launched as a standalone people search.

Yachts are generally pretty environmentally unsound, so the SDe Hybrid just debuted by Island Pilot at the Fort Lauderdale universal Boat Show should be a real breath of fresh air (literally) whether green is your thing. And apparently it’s really about as eco-friendly as…

Report: NY Times Looking to Sell About.com

As many of us can undoubtedly tell you first-hand, the print business is not exactly the safest place to be in this declining economy, and few know this better than the New York Times. The newspaper is currently in debt for more than $1 million, and it's scrambling for cost-cutting measures that don't involve massive layoffs.

The company denied in January that it was looking to sell About.com--after all, the Web company is one of the few truly profitable sectors that falls under the Times' umbrella. Naturally, things have changed a bit since January, and, as Gawker points out, while it would be hard to shed a truly profitable wing, the fact that About actually makes money, makes it easier to sell.

The cash acquired in the sale could be used to take the paper private--something the Times has apparently been looking to do as of late.

Evolve Foundation today announced the launch of VoterStory.org, a non-partisan Website aimed at letting voters voice issues with voting on Election Day. The site can also be utilized as a widget embedded on third-party sites.

VoterStory.org can be accessed via PC or mobile device. When users "Share My Story," their issues are sent to a local voter protection organization, who will look into the issue and follow up with the voter via e-mail or phone. A number of groups are already signed up with the site, including, VoterAction, Committee of Seventy, NAACP Voter Fund, and the National Lawyers Committee for Election Protection.

Evolve Foundation also runs 1-866-MyVote1 and 1-866-OurVote, to help voters file complaints over the phone and locate polling places.
