At the very least, this ought to give you pause the next time you switch your Facebook status. According to the BBC, a London man stabbed his wife to death after she switched her relationship status on the popular social networking site.
Thirty-four-year-old Wayne Forrester told local police that he stabbed his wife and mother of two, after she switched her Facebook status to "single," a few days after he moved out their home.
The murder occurred on February 18th. Forrester used a meat cleaver. According to The BBC, "he beat her, tore out clumps of her hair, and repeatedly stabbed her in the head and neck." Neighbors alerted the police when they heard her screams
Forrester pleaded guilty to the murder, a crime that carries a minimum sentence of 14 years in England.

Internet radio station Pandora might have scored a royalty rate victory last month, but it is not immune to the troubling economic situation. The site announced on Thursday that it will have to reduce it 140-person staff by 20 people.
"Like virtually every company, Pandora is not immune to the challenges presented by the current economic turmoil," Pandora president Tim Westergren wrote in a blog post. "We are trying to react quickly and responsibly to the new environment."
"This is a very sad day for Pandora, and for me personally," Westergren wrote. "We tried our best today to treat these friends and colleagues with great understanding, and with as much financial support for their transition as we can afford."
One area that will see some expansion at Pandora--ad sales. "Not only did we not make any reductions there, we need to continue to hire more," Westergren said.
The fate of Pandora was in question over the last year as it and other Web radio stations battled music opyright owners over royalty rates.
Last last month, Congress approved a bill that says Congress must honor any royalty rate agreement reached between online radio stations and copyright holders.
At issue was a March 2007 rate set by the Copyright Royalty Board (CRB) that Pandora and others claimed would put them out of business. Pandora, for example, said it would have to hand over $18 million of its $25 million annual revenue just to cover royalty rates under the CRB-approved structure.
By law, the CRB has the authority to set these rates, but under the bill approved by Congress last month, Pandora and copyright holders now have until February 15, 2009 ...

Streaming HD video site Vimeo today announced the addition of a paid service.
The premium service introduces a bunch of new features, including 2GB worth of uploads a week, unlimited HD loading, 1,000 embedabble HD videos, better quality videos, and priority uploading. Premium users will also be able to forgo Vimeo's ads. The premium features run $59.95 a year.
Vimeo is also pulling some features from non-paid users, no doubt to help make the premium service look a bit more enticing. Standard users can now only upload one HD video a week. They will also only be able to create three albums, one group, and one channel.
According to NewTeeVee, "Vimeo's backer, Barry Diller, said that Vimeo wasn't big enough to attract serious ad revenue, so this is pretty much the only option left for the site."

We are a pretty Twitter-obsessed bunch here at PC Magazine. But while some of us have seen our number of Twitter followers jump into the triple digits, my posts are primarily a collection of nerd-oriented inside jokes aimed at my dozen or so co-worker followers.
So it seemed a little odd when I received a handful of e-mail notifications last about random people now following me on Twitter. Did they really care that I was obsessed with the mac and cheese balls at a recent Microsoft event?
Sadly, no. It was all a sinister spam scheme that toyed with my Twitter ego. These new "followers" linked only to a profile with links to what I assume are virus-laden sites.
I was apparently not the only Twitter user who fell prey to these Twitter teases. The micro-blogging site is currently looking for a systems engineer to handle spam-related issues, according to the company's job site.
"Twitter is looking for a new member of our technical staff to focus on our spam detection system," the post reads. "You should have a passion for large systems and complex data analysis problems."
One key responsibility will also be to "pro-actively look for ways to make Twitter a safer place." Cape and sidekick not included.
Twitter also announced a staff change Thursday.
Twitter co-founder Evan Williams wrote in a Thursday blog post that CEO Jack Dorsey will step down and become the company's chairman, and Williams will assume the role of CEO.
"While the board of directors and the company have nothing but praise for where Jack has taken us, we also agree that the best way forward is for Jack to step into ...

When I sold a lot of my old junk on eBay, I used to start the bidding at $1 and make it a 3-day auction, just to get people bidding like mad trying to win a very short auction. It worked relatively well for me, but I'm certain it led to some bargains for my buyers as well. With Daily Dollar Deal, a new site that scrubs eBay for cheap or last-minute bargains, you can easily find those listings and jump on them before the auction ends.
Daily Dollar Deal is a new service, but behind its amateur appearance and design is a significantly useful tool. The site collects listings of affordable and last minute eBay auctions and displays them together so you can easily browse some of the auction giant's hottest bargains and jump on them before the auctions close or the bidding goes up.
To use the service, select an eBay category on the left side of the page. You'll see all of the sub-dollar bargains in that category, and you can drill down by sub-category using the menu on the left until you've narrowed your search as deeply as you'd like. The majority of the sub-dollar listings in most categories are accessories or miscellaneous knickknacks. For example, in the "Apple Desktops" category, many of the listings were parts, but many others were actual systems where the bidding started low or the auction listing was only recently posted.

In addition to scrubbing eBay for sub-dollar deals, you can click the links at the ...
