Rojo RSS Reader Plans a “Life Change”

Rojo LogoRojo, which called itself "the best free RSS and Atom feed reader," is planning a "life change." In a message sent to users of the Web-based feed reader today, the owners at Six Apart - the makers of Movable Type, TypePad, and former owners of LiveJournal - said the Rojo service will be going away soon to return with "a new name, a new look, and a new vision for how it brings you the best blog content from around the web."

While Rojo will still provide a newsletter (a quite enjoyable weekly wrap-up of the news each Friday), actual feed reading is no more. It obviously couldn't overtake the competition at Google Reader, BlogLines, Newsgator, and so many others. It is offering instructions to users on exporting feeds to utilize in another reader.

What's coming to replace Rojo's feed reading? The email only says, "We don't want to spoil the surprise, but we think you'll like what you see." Of course, by then, Rojo users will have migrated elsewhere; it'll take a lot of incentive to leave something like Google Reader and come back after that.
