The Pirate Bay Raises Shields

the%20pirate%20bay%20logo.JPGThe notorious Pirate Bay, a den of thieves, pirates and notorious rapscallions, has begun implementing countermeasures against the forces of justice and light. According to administrator "brokep"'s blog, the site will being implementing SSL encryption this week as a means of hiding traffic from the government of Sweden, where the site is housed. Sweden recently implemented a law to "wiretap" electronic communications, which brokep believes could be used to monitor traffic to the site.

"Many people have asked me what we're planning to do - and the answer is 'A lot!'" brokep wrote. "We're going to help out in any way we can with fighting the law. This week we're going to add SSL to The Pirate Bay. We're also going to help out making a website about easy encryption - both for your harddrives and your net traffic. As some people know, we're running a system for VPN-tunnels already and we're going to lower the price for that as well and open it up for international users as well."

Brokep claimed he would also work to ask the international community to reroute Internet traffic away from Sweden, as an indication that traffic passing through the country's servers may be inherently unsecure.
