Pageonce Makes You Safer

Pageonce

Pageonce entered public beta today, so now there's another Web site to give all your personal and financial information to. But get this: I think Pageonce might actually PROTECT online identities.

Pageonce is an online account aggregator that tracks your online accounts and puts the info on a single page for you to digest. (AppScout's hands-on Pageonce post is here.) Here's just a short list of what you can add to your Pageonce page: bank accounts, credit cards, investments, 401k, Facebook, LinkedIn, MySpace, Netflix, Gmail, cable/utilities accounts, cell phone accounts, airlines/hotels, Starbucks account (!), and on and on. And you're not just checking account balances. My AT&T module shows me how many minutes I've got left this month; my Netflix module shows which movies are up next in my queue; my social network modules show friend requests, messages, etc.

"But Kyle," I hear you say, "isn't it dangerous to have ALL of your info aggregated into one place?" Pageonce prides itself on strong data protection, which it outlines here. But besides that, a service like this actually helps me protect my online identity, because I'm glancing at all my accounts every day, instead of just checking them once a month when I pay my bill. If anyone were to use my credit card number, or my bank were to lose a deposit, I'd know almost immediately.

So go on and add all your most personal info. Just be sure to pick a strong password.
