Backup Outlook 2007 Rules and Signatures

Backup Outlook 2007 Rules and Signatures

Q: I had a recent computer crash and am trying to get things running again on another computer. I'm using Windows Vista. Yes, I do have a good set of backups and only lost one day of files. But I cannot find where Outlook 2007 may have stored my message rules and signatures. I have a signature that I use on emails and would like to just recover it from my backup and not have to recreate it. - Ron Villiotti.

A: For Outlook 2007 under Windows Vista your signatures should be stored in the folder C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Signatures, where username is your user name on the backed-up system. Just copy everything from that folder in the backup to the corresponding folder on the new computer.

Message rules are tougher. To make sure you don't lose message rules going forward you can export them to a file (and make sure that file gets backed up). Select Tools | Rules and Alerts from the menu. Click Options. Click the Export Rules button. To restore those rules the process is just the same except you'll click the Import Rules button.
