that little bundle of plain-vanilla familiarity is seemingly the first habitable picture of Palm’s upcoming Treo 800w for CDMA networks, known internally as the Zeppelin — you know, the out of date airships that had a tendency to spontaneously combust. Specs on th…

Filed under: StorageWe’ve had a little love affair going on with storage vendor Mtron ever since we saw that “battleship” SSD RAID array, and it looks like the company is after our hearts once again, that day with the Pro 7500 series of SSDs, which it says are the fastest around. That’s really only …

Chicago residents are no strangers to the city’s many CCTV cameras by that point — whether anyone knows precisely how faraway to stop at Roosevelt and State to avoid the red-light cam there, you let us know, okay? — but it looks like that summer is going to bring a new t…

OLPC XO officially gets Windows XP, children of the world to be assimilated

It’s been a controversial decision, but it looks like the OLPC XO has completed its transition from revolutionary education project to just another tiny Windows laptop with a useless keyboard — albeit one with a pleasantly whimsical design. Yep, it’s official: Microsoft and OLPC just put out a …

*Wired vs Wireless: Sometimes There’s No Substitute for a Cable*

In a June 2003 Wired Magazine interview, Martha Stewart said, “Bill Gates’ house, for example, is totally out of term now. He built it right before wireless happened. The big tunnels for all his wires - he doesn’t need any of that stuff anymore.” The composition wasn’t about networking, or even tec…

Three weeks after introducing SearchMonkey in limited preview, Yahoo! is opening its new development platform to all developers. According to Yahoo!, the new platform has three components:

1. Site owners share structured data with Yahoo!, using semantic markup (microformats, RDF), standardized XML feeds, APIs (OpenSearch or other web services), and page extraction. 2. Third party developers build SearchMonkey applications. 3. Consumers customize their search experience.

SearchMonkey was created with the intention of developing customized searches and mash-ups, using content from sites like CitySearch, StumbleUpon, eBay, and Epicurious to further enhance results. Developers can build apps in the form of Enhanced Results or Infobars.

Yahoo! also announced a new SearchMonkey Developer Challenge, judging submitted apps in four categories: Best Enhanced Result, Best Infobar, Most Innovative Use of Structured Data, and Best Data Service. The grand prize winner will walk away with $10,000.

For more information on SearchMonkey and the Develop Challenge, check out Yahoo's Search Blog.
