Toktumi Opens its PC-based Phone Beta to Public

toktumi.jpgFounded by a VoIP guru Peter Sisson, Toktumi is a PC-based phone service that has been in private beta since 2006. That is until now. Following a successful run, the company has just announced that the service is now open to the public.

The hosted Peer-to-Peer Private Branch Exchange (P2PBX) application, geared primarily toward small businesses, will be available for download at no cost and will include network-based features like conferencing, assigned phone IDs, inbound calling, voicemail, and auto-attendant forwarding. The company says that installation takes only 5 minutes and amounts to a system that can be used as a softphone or a PC-integrated set.

Toktumi has also introduced Search Dialing - an address book feature that taps into search engines to allow users to call any number by entering a name or keyword describing the person, company, product or service.

Unfortunately, the free pack extends these utilities only to other Toktumi users. Making calls that venture outside the network will require a full service upgrade, costing $12.95 a month per each line and 2c per minute to most phones worldwide.

To see Toktumi in action check out this demo or try it free by going here.

Metric Wrenches and Microsoft Excel

Metric Wrenches and Microsoft Excel

Q: In the article "Halves, Quarters, Eighths, Sixteenths in Excel" you showed how to get better-looking fractional results using the MROUND function. I'm trying to use this function to match metric nut sizes to the nearest 64th of an inch wrench that will fit. Much to my surprise, many of the sizes returned by my function are a fraction too small. See any way to fix this? - Bill Romano.

A:MROUND is a rounding function that rounds a calculation to the nearest multiple of a specified value. That's "nearest" in either direction, up or down. For your purposes you need to put the ROUNDUP function into play. ROUNDUP always rounds upward to the nearest integer or to the decimal place you specify. If you're working in 64ths you can multiply the value by 64, ROUNDUP to the nearest integer, and then divide by 64. That will give you the same effect at the MROUND technique, but the result will always be equal or larger. And I promise not to tell my High School shop teacher that you're using inch-based wrenches on metric nuts. - Neil J. Rubenking.
