Our feminist theory classes in college left us in the mindset that lady-tailored devices can probably do better than pink, but hey, whether you’re looking for something retractable with U3 and 8GB of storage, SanDisk just added that new $80 Cruzer Fleur to their lineup.

Latest financials confirm it: Sprint and Nextel probably shouldn’t have merged

Well, it looks like the aggressively priced unlimited action really didn’t come a moment too soon. We’re no economists here, but it doesn’t take rocket science, a Ph.D., collegiate level maths, or even a fancy calculator to crunch the cold, tough numbers coming out of Sprint Nextel’s fourth quar…

Apple MacBook Pro Penryn tests: a little more speed, a lot less heat

certain, more speed is great, but on OS X most bumps don’t have an considerable effect on everyday work (unless all you’re doing is video encoding). We were more interested in what Intel’s Penryn processors can do for the MBP’s heat envelope, so we maxed out both CPU cores in that type new machi…

Don’t distress, you’re not losing it — yet, besides. Corsair has indeed already launched a 16GB (and 32GB, for that matter) Voyager flash drive, but its forthcoming Voyager GT promises access speeds “up to four times faster” than standard USB 2.0 drives. Furthermore, that one comes housed in a …

Pando Networks to Power NBC Direct Web Video Service

NBC Direct, the broadcast network's answer to iTunes, will be powered by technology from Pando Networks, the two companies announced yesterday.

NBC promises high-resolution downloads of its most popular TV shows via the P2P Pando, in addition to strong copyright protection like hash matching, digital fingerprinting, and content watermarking technologies.

NBC launched a beta version of its Direct service in November for Windows-based PCs. The move came after NBC failed to renew its iTunes contract in August, reportedly over pricing disagreements with Apple. NBC is currently finalizing Pando's integration with Direct, and will offer an "enhanced" version of the service sometime in the first quarter.

Available programs include 30 Rock, The Office, Heroes, My Name is Earl, Medium, American Gladiators, Celebrity Apprentice, Friday Night Lights, Late Night with Conan O'Brien and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

I downloaded an early version of Direct last year and it was not cooperative, so hopefully Pando will help improve the service.

In the meantime, check out a hands-on Appscout did with Pando last year.

Quarterlife’s NBC Debut Tanks

quarterlife makes me cry

Apparently the guilty pleasure of watching twenty-something whiners on the Web doesn't translate to that other small screen.

NBC's TV debut of quarterlife, which has been running for weeks as a Web-only on its own quarterlife.com as well as on MySpaceTV, was an unmitigated disaster. The Hollywood Reporter says the ratings were the worst the network has had in the 10:00 PM time slot on a Tuesday in 17 years. Which, coincidentally, is about the age of the target audience.

The show's co-creator, Mashall Herskovitz, told a group this week, "It never should have been a network show. It's too specific." Meaning there are more whiny people online than in the living room?

What does this mean for other Web shows that might desire to make the transition to television? SciFi is reshooting the online show Sanctuary for that purpose... but that's not a major network, where a show has to be a success up front or it's dead. There's already talk that the second quarterlifeepisode scheduled for Sunday won't even run.

Maybe cable outlets like SciFi will have better luck turning other's webisodes into episodes, but with this precedent, it doesn't look good for YouTubers--or big names like Herskovitz/Zwick--to bring their online properties to Hollywood.

Microsoft e-Mails Detail Vista Woes

As happens every year or so, some juicy Microsoft e-mails have surfaced as part of litigation that the software maker is party to. In that case, Microsoft is being sued by a program in 2006 that labeled some PCs as Windows Vista Capable ahead of the operating system’s mainstream release in January 2…

FreeShippingOn: Never Pay for Shipping Again

FreeShippingOn - Banner

I love shopping online, but a great bargain can lose its luster when the total cost skyrockets because of expensive shipping. Thankfully most online shopping venues offer free shipping on specific items or when you spend a certain amount of money. The trick is knowing which items will come with free shipping and which don't, and knowing which coupon codes will shave the shipping costs off of your order.

FreeShippingOn, a new shopping site scheduled to launch on Monday, wants to be your one-stop-shop for free shipping deals at the Web's most popular shopping venues, such as Amazon, eBay, Newegg, Apple, Best Buy, and more.

FreeShippingOn works with over 500 stores, collects their free shipping coupon codes, and lists them on the site for the world to see. The service doesn't cater just to technology stores either: Online retailers like Adidas, eWatches, GNC, Safeway, The Body Shop, and Zales all have coupon codes and free shipping deals at FreeShippingOn.

FreeShippingOn - Stores

The service allows you to search Amazon and eBay directly for free shipping bargains. Because you can limit your searches at both sites to include just those with free shipping, you can click the Amazon and eBay tabs at the top of the page to get search boxes for those sites. Just type in the item you're looking for, and the service will find matching search results without shipping charges.

For any other site, you can click the link for coupon codes and search by tag or store. If you know you're looking for an automotive store, you can click the Automotive tag ...
