It looks like Apple fans will have new MacBook Pros coming their way, and that still unconfirmed report is somewhat backed up by a couple of stock screenshots by Best Buy’s tracking system (shown above). The images do not reveal sufficient data about how these new MacBook Pros will turn out, h…

The spice gun asks, “Do you feel hungry, punk?”

Yeah, it’s no Spice Weasel, but we’re pretty certain that product concept would feel right at domestic in an episode of Futurama. That’s right kids, it’s the spice gun — a handy device which would allow you to gun down your food in cold-blooded flavor. To use that killer, you…

Webware 100: Too many social networks, the sequel

Right before we closed the nominations for last year’s Webware 100 awards, I wrote a post about there being too many social networks in the running. Apparently, all you genius Web 2.0 entrepreneurs skipped school that day, considering for the 2008 Webware 100, we have, again, way too many soc…

FCC blesses sale of Aloha’s 700MHz spectrum to AT&T

No, it’s not that 700MHz spectrum, but the $2.5 billion sale of the airwaves to AT&T from private firm Aloha Partners could have implications as large as Auction 73’s massive, open-access Block C itself. Given that Aloha’s Hiwire trials for DVB-H-based mobile TV have been playing in the 700M…

Yahoo still searching for alternatives

Jerry Yang has already gotten calls from Steve Ballmer and Eric Schmidt, but he’s having trouble filling up the rest of his five faves.

Try as Yahoo might, apparently no one wants to tender against Microsoft’s bulging bank history.

The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday night that no serious bi…

Yet another perpetual motion machine fails to prove anything

We want to believe, we really do, but these failed attempts and poorly-lit basement videos aren’t precisely confidence inducing. Nevertheless, Thane Heins’ Perepiteia generator has reportedly made its way down to a number of universities and labs across America, and while some onlookers have wen…

Free Music, the Semi-Legal Way

I read an editorial recently suggesting that we lousy kids feel that free money is our birthright. Despite the sarcastic ripostes such a statement brings to the surface, it's really tough to argue against. I, for one, went to school at the height of the Napster craze. T3 connections and P2P services make for a nasty combo--not that I or my friends took part in any such thing. I just, you know, heard some stories.

Since those glory days of free-for-all music piracy, a lot of folks have abandoned P2P services, for fear that the RIAA and assorted members of Metallica might come to their houses and shoot their dogs.

There are, however, alternatives. The following solutions are in something of a legal gray area, which is to say that they pull their content from both legal and illegal sites--so use them with caution.

For the same results using Yahoo! or MSN, check out the codes over at Blog Anything.

Some sites perform similar searches using different algorithms than the aforementioned search engines. My personal favorite at present is Skreemr. It offers some of the strongest search results and some of the best tools, including instant playback, audio and song rating, and music cross-referencing from sites such ...
