Mahmoud Ahmadinejad: Iranian President, Blogger

mahmoudahmblog.jpg

A lot has been written in recent months about the heavy push toward new Web technologies among the presidential candidates. It makes me wonder how politicians in other countries are harnessing the latest Web trends to push their own messages.

As the New York Times states in a recent story, Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad isn't exactly who most people envision when they're discussing the world of Web 2.0. But the man's outspoken criticism of the West hasn't stopped him from taking a dip into the blogosphere. Titled, simply enough, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's Personal Memos, the blog serves as a platform for the president to wax political.

Those looking for the kind of no-holds-barred rhetoric Ahmadinejad's public speaking has become famous for will likely find the subject matter on Personal Memos a bit benign. That doesn't mean it isn't maddening. Ahmadinejad does use the platform to take his share of jabs at perceived opponents, but it's the text itself that's likely to drive readers nuts. Perhaps there's something lost in the translation. If not, Ahmadinejad has a potentially lucrative post-presidential career penning small print for Publisher's Clearing House.

Witness a recent post:

One's perspective regarding government and governance determines the way one ‎should cooperate with the people. If one recognizes government as a privilege and prey ‎of the governors, then the period of governance can be counted as an opportunity to fulfill ‎the expectations of certain individuals and groups or the ostentation and hedonism of the ‎governors.‎

But if in our view, "government" would be a responsibility before God for ‎establishing justice and a duty to ensure the rights of common people, serving ...

Televets Helps Answer Your Pet Questions

Televets_Logo.jpg I'm not a pet owner, but my friends who do have pets often complain about not being able to find resources to answer their questions when they need them. They usually have to call a vet or make an appointment, and wind up spending a lot of money just to get information about their pet's health. Televets can help.

Televets is a question-and-answer service that's all about your pets and their health. You can submit a question for a certified adviser to answer, or you can browse the site's knowledge base for information about your pet.

Let's say it's the middle of the night, and your pet starts behaving oddly. You don't think he's serious ill, but you're not sure. You could call an emergency vet or animal hospital and take your pet in for expensive care that could be unnecessary, or wait it out to see if your pet perks up. For many pet owners, though, there's no question: They'll seek emergency care, even if it's not an emergency. At the same time, it's always good to have more information than less, and Televets promises to help you make those judgment calls with the help of advisers who are available around the clock.

Televets - Ask A Question

If you have a question, you type it into the box on the front page and submit the question to Televet's pet experts. The service claims that most questions will be answered within an hour, and any submitted question will be answered within a day. Televets isn't free, however--each answer costs you $6 when it's posted. ...

SlideShare: YouTube for Slideshows

SlideShare - Logo To me, the slideshow is the most boring part of a meeting; especially when the presenter reads directly from the slides as though the audience is illiterate. Thanks to SlideShare I found out that not only could slideshows be fun, but that there is a huge community of people who agree. SlideShare is a Web service that allows users to upload their slideshows, share them with the world, get feedback, and even lock down their presentation for private viewing.

SlideShare is a Web service that lets people who love slideshows or want a method to share their slideshows with others upload them, discuss them, and share them with others. Anyone can use the service, and no sign-ups or accounts are required. You can upload any slideshow up to 30MB, including Microsoft PowerPoint presentations, Open Office presentations, even PDF documents, and SlideShare will separate the pages and slides and create a Flash-based presentation for you.

SlideShare - Presentation

Once you've uploaded your presentation and the service has created your slideshow, you can choose to share it with the public or lock it down for private viewing. If you lock it down, only the SlideShare members you choose can view the presentation. Otherwise, anyone can view or comment on the presentation or individual slides and add it to their favorites. You can tag and categorize the slideshow so it's easy to find by others, and use the embed code to post the presentation on your own blog or personal Web site.

As with YouTube videos, you can maximize the presentation to fill your screen, play ...
