Well, it was bound to happen sooner or later. First the Eee PC gets reviewed, soon after it gets ripped apart, in that case by the always curious folks at TweakTown. While there’s not too many surprises on the inside, TweakTown’s organized destruction of the budget-friendly laptop is nothing w…

My office is fairly plain. We have a few couches and an air hockey table, which are nice, but a visit to Office Snapshots makes me a bit jealous. The blog is updated almost every day with photos from deep inside some of the biggest Web 2.0 and tech companies in the world. They get all of their photos either by taking the tour themselves, scouring Flickr or Photobucket for images, or by begging hapless employees to take a few snapshots while they go about their daily routine.
If you think that all Web 2.0 company employees are in cushy startup-style offices with lots of modern architecture and expensive furniture, you'd be partially right. Companies from Netvibes to Flickr all have very attractive offices with comfy looking chairs and warm, comfortable lighting. On the other hand, check out the Craigslist "offices" if you want to see a globally known company that looks like it's run out of the living room of a townhouse. Not all companies are the same, and neither are their offices.

Office Snapshots has photos from the offices of companies as large as Cisco and as small as Chumby, as influential as The New York Times and as groundbreaking as Joost. Each post gives you a little insight into the company and where their headquarters are located, and you get to see a few photographs of the company's offices.
Sometimes the photos are candid and show off the company's furniture or work environment, sometimes they show off the amenities the company offers its employees. Other times, however, ...

Internet advocacy groups are none too pleased with Comcast. The SavetheInternet.com coalition and several academics on Thursday filed a complaint with the FCC calling on the commission to stop Comcast from violating customer rights in the wake of reports that the ISP is cutting off service to file-sharing services.
Comcast earlier this year came under fire for cutting service to bandwidth hogs, and last month the Associated Press printed a story in which it accused Comcast of using software from Sandvine to block customer access to P2P services like BitTorrent and Gnutella. Comcast admitted to "delaying" P2P traffic when traffic levels were high, but denied that P2P access was being blocked.
That "network management" explanation apparently didn't sit well with Internet advocates. "Comcast's defense is bogus," said Ben Scott, policy director of Free Press.
The FCC needs to declare the blocking of P2P networks a violation of an FCC Internet policy that guarantees consumer access to all content, applications and services, according to a petition filed with the FCC.
Comcast denied any wrongdoing.
"Comcast does not, has not, and will not block any Web sites or online applications, including peer-to-peer services, and no one has demonstrated otherwise," David L. Cohen, executive vice president at Comcast, said in a statement. "We engage in reasonable network management to provide all of our customers with a good Internet experience, and we do so consistently with FCC policy."
The FCC's Internet policy acknowledges that the Web is subject to reasonable network management, Cohen said. "The commission clearly recognized that network management is necessary by ISPs for the good of all customers."
Advocates remained unconvinced.
"The Commission has a ...

I'm not totally sold on the idea of Web surveys. They're generally unscientific, poorly worded, and the results are often biased. BuzzDash, a social polling site that tracks trends and opinions without masquerading them as fact, has a new approach. The site still suffers from some of the same ills that of other polling sites, but at least they're bringing some new ideas to the table.
Unlike SodaHead or PollPub, BuzzDash removes some of the more inane social aspects of the service and focuses on the basics. You can still create, comment on , and share polls on your personal blog or Website by creating a widget out of your BuzzDash poll, but there are no popularity contests, no profiles and comments on the profiles, and no rush to see who can collect the most friends. There's also a lack of dummy polls designed to solicit specific answers.

Regardless of whether the high quality of the polls is a result of some editorial work by the BuzzDash team or a sign of the BuzzDash community's sophistication, the polls at BuzzDash are a breath of fresh air. Compared to other polling services, BuzzDash's polls are interesting, articulate, and educational. Users can click on the polls to comment, and although the comments may not be as inspiring as the questions themselves, the polls stay open for weeks and months at a time instead of days and hours, leading to more answers and a larger sample.
BuzzDash has polls in five active categories, and each category is broken into subcategories that ...

When we first reported Google's launch of the new developer platform, OpenSocial, we couldn't help but comment on the fact that it seemed like product of bad blood, in light of the company's loss to Microsoft in the recent Facebook bidding war.
The platform works much like the open-source code that allows third-parties to design apps for Faceboook, only OpenSocial will extend beyond a single social network, to other blogs and Web sites. At the time of its launch, LinkedIn, Friendster, and Google's own social network, Orkut, had already signed partnerships with Google. Companies behind some of Facebook's most popular apps, including iLike and Slide, have thrown their hats in the ring.
The rumors that have been floating around the blogosphere, earlier today have just been confirmed, as well.
Myspace has added their considerable clout to the list of a dozen or so sites that have signed onto Google's OpenSocial platform. According to Reuters, Myspace and Google announced today that both companies have been working on projects for more than a year.
Both companies confirmed the partnership in a joint press release. "Our partnership with Google allows developers to gain massive distribution without unnecessary specialized
development for every platform," said Myspace co-founder and CEO, Chris DeWolfe. "This is
about helping the start-up spend more time building a great product rather than rebuilding it for every social network. We're pleased to collaborate with Google to establish a landmark standard for social applications."
The social networking site's CTO added what seemed like a parting shot at Faceboook, "We're all citizens of a larger Web--no network is an island onto itself. We look forward to continuing to develop great ...
