Is Taking A Break A Good Thing

As you know, the postings on my blog have been few and far between over the last few weeks.  I have been so busy with my new online project and finding time to update is getting more and more difficult.  But I am a strong believer in moving forward, and that is exactly what I am doing now.

The one thing i have noticed is the increase in registered users to my blog.  It seems the less often I post, the more people visit and register.  t just may be a coincidence, but it seems to happen every time.

So my question is this, once you have a blog with good readership and traffic is it better to cut down on the number of postings per week.  I know there are several opinions on this topic, but honestly the results don’t lie.

Over the last few weeks, with only a handful of posts, my Adsense earnings, registered users and blog traffic have all increased.  This makes me want to try “taking a break” from all of my other blogs for a while to see if the results are similar.

Oh well, time to move on.  So much to do and so little time… who am I kidding, I love this stuff.

Good luck and much success.

Imeem Partners With Palm Pictures

sixstring.jpgThere are a few quick ways to get my attention. One of them involves sending a box of candy. Another is sending along a card that features the cover of Six-String Samurai, quite probably one of the most conceptually awesome b-movies, in the history of the universe.

You win this round, Imeem.

Of course, it also doesn't hurt that I've already got a soft spot in my heart for the social-networking/music-discovery service. I wrote up Imeem's entry into our list of Top 100 Undiscovered Web Site list, noting that the whole "undiscovered" part would almost certainly prove inaccurate, in the very near future. The site has quickly become of the most popular entertainment destinations on the Web, and if they continue at this rate, will prove a pretty strong candidate for the old Classics list, this time next year.

The site's new partnership with indie film makers, Palm Pictures, makes Imeem's case that much stronger. The partnership will result in free screenings of Palm films through Imeem, kicking off with screenings of Six-String Samurai, tonight.

The opportunity to experience what is hands-down the greatest post-apocalyptic samurai rockabilly flick of all-time is worth signing up for and Imeem account in and of itself. The ability to stream some free Flaming Lips, thanks to the recent partnership with Warner, makes a pretty strong case for sticking around after the show.

Apple’s 99-Cent TV-Show Pricing Plan? Hollywood Isn’t Happy

Filed under: Review, apple - 07 Sep 2007

Variety may have uncovered the real reason NBC decided to abandon the iTunes ship for Amazon's Unbox service. According to three people familiar with the proposal, Apple wants to cut the price of most TV shows sold via iTunes from the current price of $1.99 down to just 99 cents, the same price it charges for a song.

Apple's argument is that cutting the price will dramatically increase sales of television shows, which will make the studios more money in the long run. Of course, this probably would make Apple more money in the short run, as well as increase sales of its new iPods, the new video-enabled Nano in particular.

According to the Variety story, television studios are also concerned that 99-cent TV downloads would cut into the sales of DVD box sets, which have in recent years become a large part of studio revenue.

Citing more unnamed insiders, Variety indicates that network TV executives are far from happy with the proposed price plan, but they aren't entirely closed to negotiation. Some believe that prices on library titles could easily be reduced to the 99-cent price Apple wants. They admit that it doesn't make sense to charge the same amount for an episode of "The Brady Bunch" as for one of "Lost."

But it seems Apple wants to stick with simple pricing, and ABC, along with parent company Disney, will probably accept Apple's terms, due in no small part to the fact that Jobs is the single largest individual shareholder in the company. A host of cable channels may be swayed to accept the 99-cent price plan as well. There's no direct word on how receptive other networks are to the idea. But if Apple doesn't bend, Apple's other ...

Netscape.com to Kill Its Social News Content

According to Netscape's Blog, the social news content on its Netscape.com front page will soon be replaced by a "more traditional news experience." But far from abandoning the idea of social news, Netscape states emphatically that its users will be able to vote and comment on stories via a new site it promises to launch soon.

"We specifically heard that our users do have a desire for a social news experience," wrote Netscape Director Tom Drapeau, "but simply didn't expect to find it on Netscape.com." Users who want to stay in the know about when and where Netscape's new social news site will appear are advised to keep checking the company's blog.

The move to more traditional news content for Netscape.com is part of a larger revamping of the page, as it shifts toward a more traditional portal site. "From checking your mail to local weather updates to the latest news headlines to celebrity gossip, you'll find it here," wrote Drapeau.

Drapeau also assured users that the Netscape browser and all other aspects of the company's content will remain the same. For the moment, the social news content is still available at the Netscape.com page, but users can preview portal site that is scheduled to replace it at Netscape.aol.com.

DirecTV’s CEDIA booth tour
