TuneGlue EBTG The Web offers many music-discovery engines, along with a lot of services that promise to help you find artists similar to the ones you like. Pandora, Last.fm, MusicMesh, and more all promise to help you expand your musical horizons. To add to the list, I recently discovered TuneGlue, a service that's powered by Last.fm's discovery engine. It's not only attractive but also has a surprisingly deep catalog of artists, their discographies, and their relationships to one another.

TuneGlue looks sparse when you first visit, but that's just because you haven't started using it yet. Type an artist or band name into the search bar and click the magnifying glass to bring up that artist's name. If you click on the name, a menu appears to either expand (which means display other artists similar to the one you typed in), list releases from that artist (which opens a window with the artist's discography and albums listed), lock its position in the diagram, or delete it from the list entirely.

TuneGlue - Search

I started off with one of my favorite bands, Everything But The Girl, whose sound I love but whose albums are very different from one another. I expanded the band out and found some similarities that I knew about and others that I didn't. The recommendation engine behind TuneGlue is the same one used at Last.fm, so I wasn't terribly surprised, but it was great to see the how the lines were drawn between artists.
